Wittman on rebuilding the team

From Rick Alonzo/Pioneer Press:
With the security of a new multiyear contract behind him, coach Randy Wittman sounded a bit more optimistic Wednesday than he did when he called for a shakeup of the Timberwolves after the regular-season finale a month ago.

"It's not a situation that calls for a total rebuilding project to get back into the playoffs," said Wittman after his signing was officially announced by the team, which did not disclose contract terms.

From Sid Hartman:
There's no doubt Wittman would like to get rid of three or four (or more) players that didn't play hard last season and weren't team players.

He talks of building the team -- not only with good players -- but with good people.

"When you have a talent like him [Garnett], I think a lot of times you need those types of players around him, more so than worrying about strictly the talent standpoint."

Wittman on his plans for the upcoming season:
"We're going to be active in looking to do what we can to change this team and the culture of this team to get back to the playoffs," Wittman said.

From Kent Youngblood/Star Tribune:
Wittman likely will be doing some tweaking of his assistant coaching staff. Wittman said Bob Ociepka and Rex Kalamian, still under contract, will be back. "We'll tweak it in terms of who is on the bench and who won't be with those two guys."
