Wolves Updates 7/9

The Wolves face the Hornets tonight in Las Vegas for the team's summer league opener. Click here for info on watching the game.

Rick Alonzo/Pioneer Press on tonight's game:
Here's a starting lineup that wouldn't be a shock to see tonight for the Timberwolves' summer league opener against New Orleans in Las Vegas: point guard Randy Foye, shooting guard Rashad McCants, small forward Corey Brewer, power forward Craig Smith and center Chris Richard.

From Kent Youngblood/Star Tribune:
The coming week, starting with tonight's game, is important for McCants, who said he has a goal of proving to everyone -- Wolves teammates, coaches and fans -- that his talent far exceeds his production so far. "I don't think anybody in the world has seen me yet," he said. "I think the opportunity to prove [to be] the player I can be has not yet arrived. That's why I feel I have a lot to prove."

Coach Wittman on having Mateen Cleaves on the summer league roster:
"Well, we're going to have to see how our roster changes," Wolves coach Randy Wittman said, in yet another hint that the team is intent on trying to rid itself of unproductive weight. "He's a guy who, if you need a third point guard, has played in the league. This is an opportunity for him to prove himself from a leadership standpoint. Randy [Foye] is still a young guy. Mateen is strictly a point guard who knows how to play the game. Maybe he can help Randy."

From Travis Heath/Hoopsworld.com:
A league source confided on Saturday that the team will likely only carry 13 players on their roster for financial reasons. What this means is Minnesota will look to keep only one or two players from their summer league roster not already under contract for next season.

John N Mitchell/The Washington Times writes that, "according to a team source," Dwane Casey is a candidate for the Wizards assistant coaching position.
