Kawakami on Garnett rumors

From Tim Kawakami/Mercury News:
A few websites are reporting that, as part of the deal, the Celtics and Garnett have negotiated a five-year, $125M extension, but I think that’s slightly mis-worded.

Garnett has two years left on his current deal (can opt-out after this season) at $45M or so. You can’t extend five more years after that and it’d be crazy to be paying out until he’s 38.

It’s more likely that Boston is negotiating to tack on a three-year, $80M extension that guarantees Garnett won’t opt-out next summer and puts the full worth of his total package to the same $125M, five-year total.
